There’s something about Ralph Lauren’s clothes that evokes Americana and the Wild West. They are not always easy to wear, especially for my body type and height, but when I do find pieces that work, it’s perfection.
[I just love the uniform of Team USA at the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014. They were of course designed by Ralph Lauren. They are quite beautiful and patriotic, two things I happen to love! Photo courtesy of RL’s Instagram account ]
So, I have been wanting a Christmas sweater but without the cliché, that is, something that’s not ugly and can be worn outside of Christmas. Last December, I finally got that wish fulfilled when I found this gorgeous sweater at the Ralph Lauren outlets in Vacaville, CA. I think they are hand-made, which sort of justified the $450 price tag on it but I have not yet lost my mind to pay that much for a sweater. As luck would have it, they were having their annual winter sale so there’s no way I was going to pass up a 75% off on it.

Don’t you just love the contrast between the black fabric and the colorful kaleidoscope of colors around it. It so happened that it is also perfect with my red wedge sneakers! Aren’t they so adorable together? Needless to say, it has become a staple in my wardrobe. I absolutely love it!
When I look at Ralph Lauren’s Polo Sports line, I can’t help but think of the Wild West as his inspiration. As you can see from the first image below, that black sweater was very much inspired by the Native American culture and style. In fact, my husband calls it the “Rain dance” sweater and every time he teases me with his own version of a Native American chant, I couldn’t help but actually dance to it.
